Why’s hair falling out? What is the difference with shedding and breakage?

Hey everyone! Today let’s talk about two common wig concerns: shedding vs. breakage. They might look similar, but they’re totally different issues!

First – don’t panic if you see a few loose hairs! If you lose a small amount when brushing or handling your wig once, and it stops? That’s likely just loose production hair (we call it ‘float hair’). Totally normal!

Real shedding? This means hair is detaching from the base. See this tiny knot or hook at the root? That’s the giveaway! Hand-tied wigs shed with longer knots (around 3-3.5 inches), while machine-made wefts shed with shorter hooks (~1 inch).

Breakage is different. Here, the hair snaps mid-strand – see how the ends are clean and straight? No knots! This usually happens from rough handling, poor hair quality, or damaged strands. A few broken hairs after combing? Probably just over-brushing. But if it keeps happening? That signals weak hair that might need replacing.

Quick recap:
🔸 Shedding = Hair falls out FROM THE BASE (look for knots/hooks)
🔸 Breakage = Hair SNAPS IN THE MIDDLE (straight ends)
🔸 Float hair = Minor initial loose hairs (harmless!)
